Favorite Place on the Fourth

Kanab is my favorite place to be on the 4th of July, celebrating Independence Day with family and friends. The morning parade is a typical small town parade—the Star-Spangled Banner, simple floats, candy for the kids who lined up and down the main street, and mingling with town folk.

After the parade, we walked to the city park. Vendors were plentiful, and because of the recently completed (and final) phase of the park, there was plenty of room for people to gather and enjoy activities during the day and entertainment and fireworks in the evening. In between activities at the park, we spent the afternoon swimming and visiting at the Crosby’s—a special treat.

There was a live band this year prior to the fireworks show, and the fireworks were spectacular! I still get goose bumps when I see the fireworks light up the sky against the red cliffs with the flag blowing in the breeze. There’s nothing quite like it. It was a perfect day celebrating America and those who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms. May God bless America.
